• Sometimes with One I Love was written during the spring of 2018 in Hartford, Connecticut, while completing my undergraduate composition degree at the Hartt School.

  The marvelous practice of setting poetry to music yields surprising and always different outcomes. No two people will write the same exact setting, for everybody's interpretation or read of the poem is different. With that in mind, for the first two poems, I sought to set them in different ways to highlight the different relationships that might play out in the writing. Walt Whitman's poetry lends itself beautifully to this kind of treatment, and it was a joy and a challenge to work with his material.
